Acupuncture is a system of healthcare which has been used in China for over 2000 years to restore, promote and maintain good health. It is a drug-free way to manage your health and it is surprisingly relaxing.
Acupuncture is increasingly becoming a popular treatment option. This may be due to some people’s concerns over the side-effects of conventional drug therapy or perhaps it is because of the growing body of clinical evidence which is adding weight to anecdotal reports that acupuncture can be a very effective treatment.
Acupuncture is widely recognised as an effective way to treat all manner of physical and emotional conditions. The aim of treatment is to restore the harmonious function of our internal organs, muscles, nervous system etc by regulating the flow and quality of Qi (loosely translated as ‘energy’, pronounced ‘chee’), blood and body fluids – our fundamental substances.
According to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), disease manifests when the body is invaded by pathogenic factors (such as cold, damp, wind etc) or when our Qi is mismanaged by lifestyle, trauma, diet, emotions (such as stress) or a combination of them all. By regulating Qi, acupuncture promotes optimal function of all our body systems. Since Chinese medicine does not separate body and mind, this includes our mental and emotional health also.
