If you have Symptoms… |

Seek urgent medical attention!
Malaria is a treatable disease, but prompt treatment is vital – death can occur within 24 hours of the first symptoms.
The commonest symptoms are:- Fever 38ºC or over (often intermittent)
- Aching muscles and joints
- Flu-like symptoms
- Headache
- Chills (sweating and shivering)
- Abdominal pains and diarrhoea
- Jaundice (yellowing of the skin & whites of eyes)
- Tiredness and fatigue
Not all of these symptoms may be present, and symptoms may be delayed in some cases for up to a year after your return home. Always seek prompt medical advice if you are unwell, and make sure anyone looking after you knows you have been exposed to malaria.
